We strongly encourage our dance students to participate in dance showcases as a stepping stone in their learning progress. Whether it is a smaller or bigger showcase, it is definitely an experience worth having. There are several reasons why students should participate in dance performance.
Having goals and trying to achieve them is important in life. That also applies in dancing. Taking dance classes is great, it is a lot of fun and very educational. But how do you know, how would you measure if you are learning? Having tangible and achievable goal at some point in time is important for dance students so that they can stay focused and engaged in private dance lessons.
It is very similar to regular school where students normally take tests in the end of semester to demonstrate that they mastered the material. The main difference in case of Showcase is that everyone gets an “A”!
Thus, we believe that it is important for dance students to participate in dance performances so that they learn how to set goals and work towards achieving them.
Not everyone is comfortable in giving speeches or presentations in public. However private dance lessons are mostly "private". There may be some people in the studio, but they are focused on their own business. Dance performance is all about you. All eyes on you. Dance Showcase is a formal event where many people (about 100 on average in our case) come together to celebrate. We encourage our students to participate in Showcases so that they feel comfortable and confident dancing in front of others. We normally recommend beginner students to participate in a showcase or two before they go to a dance competition.
Most dance performances, including Dance Showcase, are family friendly activities. This is the time when family members get together to meet and celebrate your achievements. Bring all your family to cheer for you and enjoy other performers.
